September 3, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. On August 15, 1945, Emperor Hirohito of Japan announced Japan's unconditional surrender through a radio broadcast known as the "Imperial Rescript on the Termination of the War." Just one month later, on September 2 of the same year, the formal ceremony for Japan's surrender to the Allied forces was held aboard the U.S. battleship Missouri, which was anchored in Tokyo Bay. In recognition of this historic moment, the National Government of China issued an order on September 3, 1945, calling for nationwide celebrations of victory—and designated that day as the Victory Day of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. On February 27, 2014, the seventh session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress passed a decision officially establishing September 3 as the Chinese People's Victory Day in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Since then, every year on September 3, the nation observes commemorative events to honor this pivotal chapter in history.
